Terms of Use

The licence

Speed Reading is licensed to you, not sold. You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control. You may not resell it, rent it out, decompile it or take it apart.

Speed Reading is distributed through the App Store, so Apple's standard licence terms also apply to you: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where those terms and these ones disagree, Apple's terms win.

What Speed Reading is — and what it is not

Speed Reading is a reading trainer. It shows text one word at a time at a speed you choose (RSVP), measures your reading speed, checks comprehension with short questions and offers a daily training program with a Schulte table exercise.

Results differ from person to person. The speed forecast after the test is an estimate based on daily practice, not a promise. Reading faster can lower comprehension; the app checks understanding so you can find a speed that works for you.

Speed Reading is not a medical, psychological or educational assessment. The comparison with other readers is an estimate, not a clinical test, and the app does not diagnose or treat any condition, including ADHD or dyslexia.

Text recognition from scans and photos is automatic and can make mistakes, especially with handwriting, poor light or unusual layouts. Pages behind a login or a paywall may not be imported from a link.

Free and paid

These parts of Speed Reading are free and will stay free:

• the speed test, your result, the 21-day forecast and the result card;
• reading pasted and shared text, at up to 500 words per minute;
• scanning up to 3 pages a day with the camera or from photos;
• one document in the library at a time;
• the first 7 days of the training program and the 5×5 Schulte table;
• statistics for the last 7 days, your streak, hours saved and the widget.

Speed Reading Pro adds:

• unlimited scanning and an unlimited library;
• the training program after day 7;
• reading speeds up to 1,000 words per minute and groups of 2 or 3 words;
• every Schulte table size with your history;
• statistics for all time, the training calendar and records;
• the sepia and black reader themes.

Pro is available as a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase with the same features and no renewal.

The subscription

The exact price for your region is always shown in the app before you buy, and prices may differ between countries. There is no free trial.

The subscription renews automatically unless you switch renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged within the 24 hours before renewal.

You can see, change or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings on your iPhone, under your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period runs to its end. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription — you have to cancel it in those settings.

Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. Use Restore purchases in the app to get them back on a new device. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: reportaproblem.apple.com.

When a subscription ends, nothing you have saved is deleted: your documents, progress and results stay on your device. Only the Pro features stop being available.

Your data and backups

We keep no copy of your texts, progress or results. If you lose your device or delete the app, we cannot recover anything for you, because we never had it. Your iPhone's backup is the only protection against losing them.

Your content

You are responsible for the texts you import, scan and read, and for having the right to use them. Speed Reading is a tool for your own reading; do not use it to copy or distribute other people's work.

Availability and changes

Speed Reading is provided as it is. Features may be added, changed or removed in later versions, and support for older versions of iOS ends over time as Apple's own tools move on. We do not promise that the app will be free of every fault or available without interruption. Purchases and importing from a link need an internet connection; reading and training work offline.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost data, exam or work results, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Speed Reading. Some countries do not allow limits like these; where that is the case, the limits apply only as far as that country's law permits, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated. Continuing to use Speed Reading after a change means you accept the updated terms.
