Terms of Use

The licence
eSign is licensed to you, not sold. You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control. You may not resell it, rent it out, decompile it or take it apart.
eSign is distributed through the App Store, so Apple's standard licence terms also apply to you: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where those terms and these ones disagree, Apple's terms win.
What eSign is — and what it is not
eSign lets you fill in and sign PDF files and paper documents on your iPhone or iPad: you open or scan a document, place your signature, initials, a date or text on it, fill in its form fields and export the result.
eSign creates simple electronic signatures. A simple electronic signature is accepted for many everyday documents in many countries — for example under the ESIGN Act and UETA in the United States and as a simple electronic signature under eIDAS in the European Union. It is not an advanced or qualified electronic signature, it does not verify anyone's identity, and it does not add a digital certificate to the file.
Some documents need more than that: notarised documents, wills, some property and court papers, and anything the other party says must be signed in another way. It is your responsibility to check that a simple electronic signature is acceptable for your document. eSign is not a legal service and does not give legal advice.
eSign does not send documents to other people for signature and does not keep an audit trail. The signed file is exactly what you export.
Free and paid
These parts of eSign are free and will stay free:
- 3 free documents when you start, and 1 more free document every calendar month after that. Free documents carry no watermark;
- drawing your signature and initials, and taking them from a photo;
- 4 handwriting styles for a typed signature;
- filling in form fields, signing every page, scanning paper, and exporting to PDF, JPG or PNG;
- My details, Lock with Face ID, iCloud sync and backup files.
A document counts when you start it — open, scan or import it into eSign. Exporting it again later is always free. If you delete a document you have not exported, in the same month, the document comes back to your allowance. Unused welcome documents do not expire; the monthly free document does not carry over to the next month.
You can also pay for more:
- 1 Document — a one-time purchase that lets you start one more document. Purchased documents do not expire;
- eSign Pro — weekly or yearly subscription: unlimited documents and every handwriting style while the subscription is active;
- Lifetime — a one-time purchase with the same Pro features, with no renewal.
The number of free documents may change in future offers; any change never takes away documents you already started or bought.
The subscription
eSign Pro is available weekly or yearly. The exact price for your region is always shown in the app before you buy, and prices may differ between countries. There is no free trial.
The subscription renews automatically unless you switch renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged within the 24 hours before renewal.
You can see, change or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings on your iPhone, under your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period runs to its end. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription — you have to cancel it in those settings.
Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. Use Restore purchases in the app to get them back on a new device. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: reportaproblem.apple.com.
When a subscription ends, nothing you have made is taken away: your documents, signatures and exported files stay exactly as they are. Only new documents beyond the free allowance and the paid handwriting styles stop being available.
Your data and backups
We keep no copy of your documents or signatures. If you lose your device, turn off iCloud sync or delete the app, we cannot recover anything for you, because we never had it. Keeping iCloud sync, device backups or eSign backup files is the only protection against losing your documents. If you protect a backup file with a password and forget it, the file cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
Your content
You are responsible for the documents you sign and for what you write on them, and for having the right to use the information in them, including information about other people. Sign only documents you are entitled to sign, and only with your own signature.
Availability and changes
eSign is provided as it is. Features may be added, changed or removed in later versions, and support for older versions of iOS ends over time as Apple's own tools move on. We do not promise that the app will be free of every fault or available without interruption. Purchases and iCloud sync need an internet connection and depend on Apple and RevenueCat; signing documents works offline.
Before you send a signed document, check the exported file. We are not responsible for a document that was sent with a mistake in it.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost data, missed deadlines, rejected or disputed documents, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of eSign. Some countries do not allow limits like these; where that is the case, the limits apply only as far as that country's law permits, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated. Continuing to use eSign after a change means you accept the updated terms.
